How to thread a pipe?

Threading a steel pipe is not an easy task, but it can be if you are equipped with the right tools. Threading a pipe, the right way

Step 1: Secure the pipe in place

At first, loosen the jaws of the vise to place the pipe. Once it has been placed, with the end you would like to thread sticking out, then tighten it up. Ensure the pipe is secured and tightened before you get started. The process is similar to how you would tighten a bolt or a nut. 

Step 2: Choose the correct die and place it in stock

The threads on the outside of the pipe are based on the diameter of the dies you choose. The diameter is usually listed n the outside of the die itself and there are a series of them. Put the die over the pipe and push it with pressure to ensure it doesn't cut the pipe but spins. We would advise you to drizzle some cutting oil before you slide the die over to the end of the pipe. Lean in and apply some pressure while pushing the die. Then, pull the ratchet handle until you notice the die bite into the pipe. Now, you can release the pressure. 

Step 3: Threading the pipe

After the previous step, you'll have started cutting the thread. Continue the process by pushing the handle backwards. Ensure both die and pipe are properly lubricated with cutting oil. Flip the ratchet in the backward direction a few times more. This will eventually lead to die coming out of the pipe. You can also reverse the thread off the pipe when the last tooth enters the pipe.
